Meeting the climate goals toward 2030 and 2050 will require a major transformation of industry and society in the Netherlands and abroad. In the shorter term, much of the CO₂ reduction can still be achieved with efficiency improvements and electrification of existing industries based on wind and solar power. CCS will also play an important role in reducing emissions by 2030. However, achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 requires not only reductions, but also building new, sustainable value chains. This transition involves not only the climate goals, but also the future design of the Dutch economy and our strategic independence. This Cluster Energy Strategy Rotterdam-Moerdijk (CES) provides insight into the infrastructure needed for this transformation. Infrastructure that allows industry to reduce its CO₂ emissions now and that forms the foundation for building a healthy, sustainable economy for the future.
